Dubai firm finds eco-friendly fuel for metal cutting

Agencies Dubai, Jan 31 – A new fuel discovered by a Dubai-based firm is claimed to be more efficient in cutting metals and would cause less harm to the environment. The new product ‘cutting edge gas not only addresses environmental challenges and contributes to sustainable development practices, it is also more economical, thus optimising resource efficiency by industries’, said Hesham Ali Mustafa, general manager of Emirates Gas. The company said that the cutting edge gas, used for cutting, heating, brazing and gouging metal applications, is about 30 per cent cheaper, lasts longer, reduces handling costs and is environment-friendly and safer than acetylene, WAM news agency reported.

Punjab to spend Rs.70 crore for new schools

Agencies Muktsar (Punjab), Jan 31 – In a bid to impart quality education, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Sunday launched a project of Rs.70 crore for setting up of 21 model schools in the rural areas. The project was launched after Badal laid the foundation stone of a Rs.32-lakh model school in Bhagsar village here in this district. ‘Poor rural youth are generally deprived of quality education at par with the students in convent and public schools in the urban areas.

Ashok Leyland posts Rs.104 crore profit

Agencies Chennai, Jan 31 – Commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland has closed its third quarter ended Dec 31 with a net profit of Rs.104.63 crore on a turnover of Rs.1,815.53 crore as against Rs.18.86 crore profit and Rs.1,004.49 crore turnover posted during the corresponding period the previous year. According to a company statement Sunday, sales volume for the quarter showed an increase of 101 percent at 16,129 units (8,011 units) and parts sales rose by 91 percent. Ashok Leyland said the improvement in profitability should be viewed at the backdrop of near collapse situation that prevailed during the corresponding period the previous year.

Haryana police yet to arrest Ranjit Bajaj
