Indian Air Force dominates Pokharan air space in biggest ever wargame

Pokharan, Feb 28 : Operation Vayu Shakti 2010 showcased the tremendous firepower demonstration of the Indian Air Force on Sunday in three parts-during the day, at dusk and at night, which is essential for the IAF’s success in any battle. President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Defence Minister A.K. Antony and the three service chiefs, besides senior officers of the armed forces witnessed the firepower demonstration of the Air Force.

Saudi Arabia concerned over prevalence of ‘dangerous trends in Pakistan’

Riyadh (ANI), Feb.28 : Expressing concern over growing dangerous trends in Pakistan, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Saud al Faisal on Sunday said that its political leadership should unite to fight the menace of terrorism. “Pakistan is a friend of Saudi Arabia and therefore anytime when one does see dangerous trends in a friendly country, one is not only sorry but worried. And, it is indeed the duty of all political leaders in Pakistan to unite together to see that extremism does not find its way to achieve its aim in the country and this can only happen with united political leadership in Pakistan.

Differences in UPA egg opposition on to target government

New Delhi, Feb 28 – With some allies of the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) ranged against any hike in fuel prices, the opposition is ganging up in Parliament against the government on the issue of inflation. Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Basudeb Acharia said a meeting of Left parties, Samajwadi Party (SP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and some other ‘secular parties’ has been convened March 3, when parliament meets after a four-day break, to decide the course of action against price rise and budget decisions of the government. ‘We will launch a countrywide agitation,’ Acharia told IANS.

No third-party role in India-Pakistan ties: Congress, BJP

New Delhi/Riyadh, Feb 28 – The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday made it clear that there was no scope for a third party in India-Pakistan bilateral ties. Commenting on Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor’s remarks on Saudi Arabia’s potential as an interlocutor in India’s relations with Pakistan, a source close to Congress president Sonia Gandhi said: ‘India’s position on ‘no’ to third-party mediation in India-Pakistan issues is unchanged. There is no change in the Congress position.’ BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar reiterated India’s known stand that no third party can intervene in issues between India and Pakistan.

Three pilgrims killed in Himachal accident

Shimla, Feb 28 – Three pilgrims from Punjab were killed and one was seriously injured Sunday when the car in which there were travelling skidded off the road and fell into a ditch in Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur district, police said. ‘Three people were killed when their car fell into a 60-foot ditch near the Naina Devi shrine around 2 p.m. Sunday.

Naked Russians corrupt minds: Goa Congress MP

Panaji, Feb 28 – Russian tourists in Morjim, a beach village in north Goa, move around naked on the beach or are scantily clad, Congress MP Shantaram Naik said Sunday after touring the area popular with Russians. Naik, who went to the village Saturday with state law commission chairman Ramakant Khalap and Congress leaders, said that such bohemianism ‘besides corrupting minds of locals left a horrifying impression on children’. ‘The state government has consciously taken a decision not to prescribe any dress code but during my Morjim tour I was told that some Russians move totally naked,’ Naik has said in a statement.
