A way to de-stress for Commonwealth Games volunteers

New Delhi, Feb 28 – As pressure mounts on volunteers for the approaching Commonwealth Games in the capital, they may find the perfect way to stay high on enthusiasm and physical fitness with an Art of Living course. The mega event, which will take place in Delhi from Oct 3 to 14, aims to recruit 30,000 volunteers from a cross-section of people – from students and homemakers to ex-servicemen and corporate honchos. Sudhir Mital, the special director general looking after the volunteers programme, said: ‘The Art of Living Foundation has expressed an interest in providing a three-day course on stress management to the Commonwealth Games volunteers’.

Now, coins a security threat

New Delhi, Feb 28 – The mediapersons had to empty their pockets of coins as part of the latest security drill for the Hockey World Cup on Day One at the sprawling Dhyan Chand National Stadium here Sunday. Harried and harassed over the last few days following intense security restrictions, mediapersons were at their wits’ end when they were told by the security personnnels that they would not be allowed to enter the stadium with coins. And this followed after an hour-long wait at the stadium gate despite reaching at the scheduled time of 1 p.m.

Fire kills one in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 28 – A man was burnt to death after a fire broke out in a Reebok showroom in east Delhi, a fire official said Sunday. The fire started in the Krishna Nagar Reebok showroom around 11:20 p.m. Saturday.

Gunman kills five civilians in Kabul

Kabul, Feb 28 – An unidentified gunman entered in a house in the eastern part of Kabul and killed five members of the family, injuring two others, police said Sunday. The overnight attack came one day after five Taliban suicide bombers killed 17 people, including nine Indians, in a series of explosions and gunfire that marked the deadliest assault against foreigners in the capital. ‘The attacker killed five members of Ahmad Shah’s family in Nawabad Dahkhodaidad area of Kabul city,’ Abdul Ghafar Sayedzada, head of criminal investigative department of Kabul police, said.

Three major power plants for Greater Noida

Lucknow, Feb 28 – The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set up three mega power plants in the Noida and Greater Noida areas to meet the increasing demand of power in the fast-growing region. Each of these plants is proposed to be of 1,000-1,300 MW capacity. ‘Huge plots of land have been identified for the purpose in Jehangirpur, Chola and along the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida,’ Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation chairman Navneet Sehgal told IANS here Sunday.
