Rohtak/Narwana (Haryana), Feb 28 : Authorities in Haryana on Sunday imposed strict security measures across the state to prevent any untoward incident in the wake of protests by the followers of a Sikh sect agitating over the filing of a murder case against their chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. The followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda, a sub-sect of Sikhs, went on a rampage at several places in the state and also in Punjab on Saturday to voice their ire at their chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s name figuring in the murder case. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had booked Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh last week in connection with the murder of Faqir Chand in 1991.

London, Feb.28 : Britain’s Chief of General Staff (CGS) General Sir David Richards has warned the establishment that defence budget cuts are having a “cumulative and corrosive effect” on soldiers and their families. In a confidential draft memo prepared for ministers, General Richards has claimed that soldiers are being treated very poorly after their return to Britain from tours abroad that it is threatening to undermine the war effort in Afghanistan. Santiago (Chile), Feb.28 : Chile’s President Michelle Bachelet has revealed that the earthquake hitting her country on Saturday has so far claimed the lives of at least 300 people and affected over two million. “The power of nature has again struck our country,” Bachelet said in a nation-wide address, and declared that six of Chile’s 15 regions were now “catastrophe zones” in the aftermath of the 8.8-magnitude quake. “This is a catastrophe of immense proportions, so it will be very difficult to give precise figures,” The Telegraph quoted Interior Minister Edmundo Perez Yoma, as saying.
