FICA chief May warns of mass IPL withdrawals

Sydney, Feb.28 : Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA) chief Tim May has warned of mass withdrawals from next month’s Indian Premier League (IPL) because of security fears. “If the security situation does not improve, there could be mass withdrawals,” May told the BBC. “There are just 13 days before the start of the tournament and security arrangements have still not been agreed.

London, Feb 28 : English footballer Wayne Bridge’s ex fiancie Vanessa Perroncel wants soccer star John Terry to deny their alleged affair, as it is ruining her possibilities of reconciliation with her former partner, it has emerged. The lingerie model is apparently angry at the Chelsea player’s reluctance to publicly deny an affair. “Vanessa feels very strongly that if John had issued an instant denial, as she herself did as soon as the story broke, then it would have substantially reduced the damage done to her relationship,” the Daily Express quoted Perroncel’s lawyer Monica Daniel, as saying.

Teens smoking marijuana at increased schizophrenia risk

Sydney, Feb 28 : Teens who smoke marijuana are at a greater risk of developing schizophrenia and psychotic symptoms in the future, a new study has found. After observing more than 3800 youngsters, researchers learnt that people who used the drug for six or more years were twice as likely to suffer from delusional disorders than those who never used it. Researchers from Queensland Brain Institute, at the University of Queensland, quizzed 3801 young adults who were born in Brisbane between 1981 and 1984.

Brittany Murphy ‘had 109 Vicodin in 11 days’, says coroner

New York, Feb 28 : A coroner’s reports into Brittany Murphy’s death have revealed that the actress filled a prescription for painkiller Vicodin just 11 days before she died late last year but 109 pills were missing when she was found collapsed in her Los Angeles home. Officially, pneumonia and drug intoxication have been ruled as the cause of the ‘Clueless’ star’s death; the report says the 32-year-old Murphy was issued 120 pills of Vicodin on December 9 and only 11 were found in the bottle when she suddenly died on December 20. According to gossip web site TMZ, the LA coroner’s office has not been able to trace the doctor who issued the prescription, reports the New York Post.

Melbourne, Feb 28 : A new Australian study has found that mums working part-time raise healthier children than their counterparts who stay at home or have a full-time job. The study, “Do Working Mothers Raise Couch Potato Kids?” shows that kids of part-time mums have less junk food, watch less TV and are less likely to be overweight or obese. The study group carried out face-to-face interviews with mothers and measured their child’s height and weight at ages four to five, and again two years later, at six to seven years of age.

MJ’s death re-enacted on US TV

London, Feb 28 : A controversial reconstruction of Michael Jackson’s death has been shown on US television. The 30-minute macabre re-enactment was broadcast in the US on cable channel VH1, reports News of the World. It shows an actor playing Jackson’s doctor Conrad Murray trying to revive the singer with chest compression heart massage – first on a bed and then on the floor.
