Faizabad, Feb 28 : A 50-member South Korean delegation recently visited the monument dedicated to Queen Heo Hwang-Ok, their royal ancestor and paid homage to her at Faizabad city of Uttar Pradesh. Artistes from India and Korea took part in cultural activities to celebrate the ninth anniversary of this memorial. Two thousand years ago, Heo Hwang-Ok, a 16-year-old princess from Ayodhya sailed to the Kaya kingdom which is now known as Kimhae city in Korea and married the ruler of the place, King Kim Suro, founder of the ancient Korean kingdom of Karack.

New Delhi, Feb 28 – While international hockey players are still divided over the much talked about referral system introduced in the World Cup here, it was used straightaway in the inaugural match between Spain and South Africa here Sunday. Bangalore, Feb 28 – Chinese national carrier Air China Sunday connected India’s tech hub Bangalore with Shanghai and also provided a direct service to Chengdu in Sichuan province, showcased as a major IT hub and outsourcing destination in China. Preferring Bangalore over Mumbai and Kolkata, Air China’s maiden flight flew in to the international airport here late Saturday and left for Shanghai via Chengdu in the wee hours of Sunday. ‘Though there was stiff competition from other Indian cities, Air China chose Bangalore as its second Indian destination after New Delhi to connect the commercial city of Shanghai and IT hub Chengdu with India’s tech city,’ Karnataka tourism director Vishwanath Reddy told reporters late Sunday.

Shillong, Feb 28 – The Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) Sunday again traded gunfire in Muktapur along their border in Meghalaya but a BDF official called it ‘accidental’ firing. Islamabad, Feb 28 – Villagers have found the bodies of 17 suspected Taliban fighters in Pakistan’s troubled north-western region, a security official said Sunday. The bodies were found dumped in the fields near a school in Toor Chappar village of Darra Adam Khel, a semi-tribal district located around 40 km south of Peshawar, the capital of North Western Frontier Province. A local security official who spoke on condition of anonymity said ‘all 17 bodies had bullet wounds’, adding that these were the ‘terrorists wanted by the government for involvement in terror activities’.
