Dhaka, Feb 28 – A Pakistani militant nabbed here Sunday confessed to working as coordinator of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bangladesh and as a recruiter for operations in India. Rizwan Ahmed, 26, of Karachi made the confession at a media briefing at the headquarters of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) that arrested him from Sukanya Tower, opposite Dhaka College in the national capital, Star Online reported. He is one of the five operatives of the Pakistan-based militant organisation arrested from various parts of Bangladesh, an official said Sunday.

Kabul, Feb 28 – A mine explosion Sunday in southern Afghanistan killed 11 civilians, including women and children, a provincial spokesman said. The attack in southern province of Helmand, where thousands of Afghan and NATO forces have been taking part in the biggest-ever operation against the Taliban, happened when the civilians were travelling in a trailer attached to a farming tractor in province’s Nawzad district, a government spokesman said. ‘A mine struck a tractor in Khewaja Jamal area and killed 11 civilians, including two women and two children,’ Daoud Ahmadi, spokesman for Helmand’s provincial governor, told DPA.

Paris, Feb 28 – At least 18 people have died in a violent storm that swept across France late Saturday and Sunday, France Info radio reported. Packing winds of up to 160 km per hour, the storm uprooted trees, flooded houses, wreaked havoc with transportation and cut electricity supply to more than one million households, primarily along the Atlantic coastline. Among the victims was an 88-year old woman who was found drowned in her house on the Isle of Oleron, off the west coast.

Bangalore, Feb 28 – Four people have been arrested and search is on for a few others for Tuesday’s fire in the Carlton Towers here that left nine dead and around 60 injured, police said Sunday. Dubai, Feb 28 – Dubai police said Sunday that Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Mahbouh, found dead in his hotel room last month, had been given large amounts of an anesthetic drug and then suffocated to death. Major General Khamis al-Mazina, Deputy Commander of Dubai police, said in a press conference that al-Mahbouh had been injected with the drug succinylcholine, used to relax patients’ muscles and induce total anesthesia. The murder unleashed international outrage, as it appeared as if the identities of European and Australian nationals had been stolen to act as cover for the assassination gang.

Islamabad, Feb 28 : Jamat ud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed on Sunday said Pakistan will have to “fight a war at all cost” if India is not prepared to hold talks. In an interview given to a Pakistan news channel, Saeed said: India wants war… If India is not prepared to hold talks, Pakistan will have to fight a war at all costs.” Commenting over India’s accusations about his (Saeed) involvement in 26/11 Mumbai attack, Saeed said: “Let India prove it in any court, I will be ready to accept everything.” Saying the people should go to Kashmir for ‘jehad’ against India, Saeed also criticized the Pakistan Government calling it as “coward.” Saeed, was placed under house arrest in Lahore in December 2008 after the JuD was declared a terrorist group by the UN Security Council in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks.
