Air force chopper crashes ahead of demonstration

Pokhran (Rajasthan), Feb 28 – An advanced light helicopter (ALH) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) Sarang aerobatic display team crashed Saturday, ahead of the firepower demonstration here, an IAF officer said Sunday. ‘The aircraft suddenly lost power and crashed after the pilot was unable to regain control,’ the officer told IANS. It crashed at the Jaisalmer airfield, about 50 km from the Pokhran ranges.

Acidic substance thrown on woman in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 28 – Two unidentified boys on a bike threw some acidic substance on a 29-year-old woman in Delhi Cantonment area Saturday while she was returning home from work, police said Sunday. ‘The victim, Vimla Devi, works as a saleswoman in a health drink company in Rajouri Garden area of West Delhi. Couple held for duping people of Rs.65 lakh

New Delhi, Feb 28 – A couple was arrested here for duping several people of a total of Rs.65 lakh on the pretext of providing them educational degrees, police said Sunday. Rochak Sharma, 28, and his wife Jasmine Sharma, 27, who were absconding for the last several days, were arrested from Lodhi institutional area in south Delhi Saturday, police added. ‘A city court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against the couple in January this year and they were absconding since then.

PMO in awkward position over Tharoor’s ‘interlocutor’ remark

New Delhi, Feb.28 : Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor’s reported comments about Saudi Arabia’s possibility of being an interlocutor between India and Pakistan seems to have put the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) here in an awkward position and it is likely to study his remarks. “We are unhappy at Tharoor comments,” Times Now reported government sources as saying on Sunday evening. “Prime Minister Office will study remarks and is likely to issue a contradiction to Tharoor’s remarks,” the report added.

Tharoor upset at fuss over Saudi as interlocutor remark

Australia downplays Commonwealth security concerns

Melbourne, Feb 28 – Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Smith, who will study the Commonwealth Games preparations when he visits India this week, has downplayed security concerns related to the event. Delhi policeman on the run after rape charge

New Delhi, Feb 28 – A Delhi Police constable was on the run Sunday after being charged with raping the 25-year-old wife of a friend. The constable, posted with the Crime Branch in Dwarka, allegedly assaulted the woman in Sector 16 of Dwarka when her husband had gone to Haryana. The woman told her husband later that the constable was drunk when he raped her.
