Sensex rises 154 points, crosses 16,000-mark

Mumbai, Feb 9 – A benchmark index of Indian equities shot up Tuesday afternoon to rule 154 points higher than its last close, after trading sluggishly during the morning session.

At 1.54 p.m., the 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 15,940.73 points, was ruling at 16,089.86 points, up 154.25 points or 0.96 percent from its previous close at 15,935.61 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was at 4,804.5 points, against the previous close at 4,760.4 points, a gain of 0.93 percent or 44.1 points.

Broader markets were still sluggish with the BSE midcap index up 0.3 percent and the BSE small cap index trading 0.46 percent higher.
