Islamabad, March 31 – The Pakistani Army Wednesday termed as ‘false and fabricated’ media reports that three of its serving officers had assisted Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative David Coleman Headley in executing the 26/11 Mumbai mayhem. ‘The allegation is false and fabricated. It aims to malign the Pakistan Army and the ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence,’ a spokesman of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
New Delhi, 31 March – A journalist and his air hostess wife were arrested here for cheating over 100 job seekers on the pretext of offering them employment in multinational companies, police said Wednesday. Sumit alias Sameer Bhardwaj, 23, and Jahnavi alias Pooja Gupta, 21, cheated people on the pretext of providing them jobs as engineers, supervisors, managers and others. They were arrested from Munirka in south Delhi Tuesday.
Gandhinagar, March 31 – With the fate of seven Indian cargo vessels hijacked by Somalian pirates still hanging in the balance, there are reports that another cargo vessel which sailed from Dubai was also seized Tuesday. The vessel reportedly had a crew of 16, all from Kutch in Gujarat. The vessel, Dubai registered Al Farari, had unloaded its cargo at Mogadishu and was on its way to a port identified as Ismail nearby when it was reportedly hijacked, said Ahmed Haji, a vessel owner from Mandvi in Kutch.

New Delhi, March 31 – India is scouting for energy supplies and investment opportunities from countries like the US, Kuwait and Indonesia at the International Energy Forum in Mexico currently under way. India’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Murli Deora has been holding talks with energy ministers on the sidelines of the 12th IEF in Cancun Tuesday. In his meeting with the Kuwaiti Petroleum Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdulla Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Deora invited Kuwaiti oil companies to invest in petrochemical projects at Mangalore and Paradip.
Islamabad, Mar 31 – Pakistan and Turkey agreed Wednesday to upgrade their strategic partnership and step up political and economic cooperation. ‘Pakistan values its ties with Turkey and relations between both countries in the fields of education, defence, agriculture, education, energy and trade would be strengthened,’ President Asif Ali Zardari said at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul. Noting that Pakistan ‘values’ its strategic partnership with Turkey, Zardari also urged the visiting president to set up a mechanism to ensure political, economic and defence coordination, Online news agency reported.
Chandigarh, March 31 – Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) will give its employees incentives to keep them motivated to achieve production targets, a company official said here Wednesday. ‘We have approved the payment of generation incentive to the employees of various stations. This incentive is given for achieving target performance during a month and also during a particular day,’ Sanjeev Kaushal, HPGCL managing director, told reporters here.
New Delhi, March 31 – India and Switzerland Wednesday agreed to step up their economic ties when Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Ray rang up her Indian counterpart S.M. Krishna. ‘The ministers reiterated their resolve to further strengthen the excellent bilateral ties which exist between the two countries, particularly in the areas of economy and commerce and allied fields,’ the external affairs ministry said.
Bangalore, March 31 – State-run Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will partner with UOP LLC, a Honeywell International subsidiary, to produce green transportation fuels from non-food feedstock, the global technology firm said Wednesday. As per the agreement, the partners will explore setting up a bio-fuel production unit at a select IOC site using domestic feedstock and evaluate the viability of pyrolysis oil technology to convert plant biomass into renewable power and heat. ‘The collaboration is focused on developing viable and sustainable green fuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in India,’ UOP’s renewable energy and chemicals business unit vice-president Jennifer Holmgren said in a statement here.
