Lucknow, March 31 – The Congress Wednesday termed the suspension of 22 officials by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for alleged bungling of funds meant for the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) as an ‘eyewash’. The chief minister’s move Tuesday night came after Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi alleged there was bungling of NREGS funds. Congress spokesman Subodh Srivastava said the suspensions were an ‘eyewash’ in view of the suspected huge volume of pilferage across the state.

New Delhi, March 31 – Five men, including a business graduate, have been arrested here for their involvement in over 50 cases of robberies, snatching, vehicle thefts in Delhi and its suburbs, police said Wednesday. Parveen Shanker, an MBA from Symbiosis University, Pune, Manoj Kejriwal, a graduate in history from Ranchi University, Rahul Anand, a BSc drop-out from Patna University, and Hari Om and Mahesh Kumar were arrested Tuesday from Geeta Colony area of east Delhi. One semi-automatic pistol, two country-made pistols and 19 live cartridges were recovered from them, police said.

New Delhi, March 31 – A Class 12 student has been arrested for making hoax calls claiming that bombs had been planted onboard Indigo flights, police said Wednesday. Debasish Banerjee, 18, was arrested from Kolkata for making two hoax calls from his mobile phone March 12 and March 13. He claimed that a bomb had been planted on Indigo flights at Delhi’s domestic airport.
