Dagestan bombers linked to Monday’s Moscow attacks: Putin

Moscow, March 31 – The group responsible for Wednesday’s suicide bombings in the Russian semi-autonomous republic of Dagestan was also behind Monday’s terrorist attacks in Moscow’s subway, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said. Wednesday’s attacks killed at least 12 people and Monday’s suicide bombings claimed 39 lives and wounded dozens of others. ‘We believe that these attacks were aimed against Russia,’ the Interfax news agency quoted him as saying.

May 3 is judgment day for Kasab

Tripura offers over 4,700 government jobs

Agartala, March 31 – Tripura has decided to fill up 4,712 government job vacancies in one go to tackle growing unemployment in the state, a minister said here Wednesday. ‘The school education department has issued 4,712 job offers in the past one week,’ School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty told reporters. ‘We will offer several hundred government jobs in May for the unemployed youths.’ Currently, Tripura has 550,000 registered (matriculation and above) unemployed youths.

Manchester, March 31 – Indian pair of Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal entered the final of the women’s doubles defeating top seeded Jenny Duncalf and Allison Waters of England 6-11,11-8,11-4, in the International Doubles squash championship here Wednesday. Five convicted in Kandhamal riot case

Bhubaneswar, March 31 – A fast track court in Orissa Wednesday sentenced five people to two years’ imprisonment in a Kandhamal riot case. Janala Pradhan, Krushna Pradhan, Nata Pradhan, Ashok Mallick and Udayanath Pradhan from Raikhala-Gadiapada village were accused of torching and destroying the house of Birendra Naik of the same village during the 2008 Kandhamal riots. They were booked under several charges.

20 terrorists killed in Pakistan’s northwest

Islamabad, March 31 – Twenty terrorists were killed and 30 injured when Pakistani security forces repulsed an attack on their check post in the restive tribal region in the country’s northwest bordering Afghanistan, the military said Wednesday. ‘A group of 80-100 heavily armed terrorists, with explosive-laden vehicles, attacked a security forces check post at Jansi in the Khyber Agency Tuesday night but the security forces repulsed the attack,’ an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement said. ‘Security forces effectively responded and repulsed the attack.
