New Delhi, March 31 – The Delhi government is planning to build an international standard football stadium in the city, it was announced Wednesday. Arvinder Singh Lovely, minister of state for education and transport, assured Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) president Subhash Chopra Wednesday that the state government has taken over a six acre plot at Najafgarh in Southwest Delhi for the purpose. ‘The minister has already taken the initiative to construct an international standard football stadium at Najafgarh on a six acre plot and it will be given to Delhi Soccer Association on completion,’ said a DSA statement.

Thiruvananthapuram, March 31 – The Congress Wednesday revoked the suspension of Rajmohan Unnithan, former general secretary of the party in Kerala, absolving him of charges of immoral trafficking. Unnithan was suspended from the party after he was held with a woman, said to be a Congress Seva Dal worker, at a house in Malappuram district Dec 20 evening. Brussels, March 31 – Belgium Wednesday moved a step closer to becoming the first European Union (EU) country to punish Muslim women who hide their faces in public, as the interior affairs committee of its parliament passed a resolution against burqas. Burqas are full-length, head-to-toe garments which obscure a woman’s face completely, usually with a semi-transparent section that allows the wearer to see out. Belgian media reported that according to the draft law approved by the committee, anyone caught ‘in public places with their face completely or partly covered or masked, so that they are no longer identifiable,’ should be punished with a 15 to 25 euros fine ($20 to 34) and/or serve from one to seven days in prison.

Islamabad, March 31 – The Pakistani government Wednesday sacked a senior official of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), as also an aide of the country’s interior minister, in line with a Supreme Court directive. The court had last December nullified the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), an amnesty against graft, and asked the government to remove NAB Prosecutor General Danishwar Malik and Sajjad Haider, the staff officer of Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
