Chandigarh, March 31 – Impressed with the success of Bihar’s ‘Super 30′ programme for rural students, the Punjab government is set to replicate the model here to facilitate its marginalised and underprivileged students to crack the entrance test of India’s prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Wednesday gave an in-principle approval to the vice-chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, to open a center to prepare rural students for admissions to IITs from the academic session 2010-11. Badal has directed the planning secretary to make a budgetary allocation of Rs.139.17 lakh for the proposed centre in the state’s annual plan.

Bhubaneswar, March 31 – An attempt to create a smoke screen for a play scene went horribly wrong when the explosive material used went off killing one person and injuring a dozen more in Orissa’s Nayagarh district, police said Wednesday. Panaji, March 31 – The Goa Police Wednesday suspended a sub-inspector for accepting a bribe from a non resident Indian (NRI), officials said. Deputy Inspector General Ravindra Yadav told reporters that sub-inspector Pravin Pawar attached to the immigration branch was placed under suspension for accepting a $100 bribe. ‘We received a letter from British NRI Fatima Fernandes, who complained that Pawar, posted at the Dabolim airport, asked for a bribe on March 7,’ Yadav said.

London, March 31 – Prosecutors in Los Angeles have angrily denied claims by Hollywood filmmaker Roman Polanski’s lawyers that they tried to conceal evidence in his 32-year-old sex case, and renewed demands for him to be returned to the US for sentencing. London, March 31 – The man accused of stalking actress Jennifer Garner has been sent to psychiatric clinic after been found not guilty of the offences due to reasons of insanity.
