London, April 30 : Hollywood actress Dame Elizabeth Taylor presented Prince Charles with a bust of her late ex-husband Richard Burton at the Buckingham Palace, in a ceremony honouring the great legend. Prices of wheat, rice steady, sugar declines: Government

New Delhi, April 30 – Prices of wheat and rice largely remained steady or declined while sugar continued to decline at most places across India over the week ending Thursday, the government said Friday. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said this in a statement after studying the prices at centres monitored by the Department of Consumer Affairs. The ministry said that the ‘prices of sugar continued to decline at many centres while prices of other commodities generally remained steady.’ According to data released by the Department of Consumer Affairs, prices of wheat remained steady at all the reporting centres except for a decrease at Patna and increase at Rajkot, whereas prices of rice generally remained steady at most centres.

Government diverts forces from northeast to tackle Maoists

Agartala, April 30 – The union home ministry is in the process of withdrawing several battalions of central paramilitary forces from the northeast to deploy them in Maoist-affected areas of the country, a top police official said here Friday. ‘Six battalions of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are moving from Assam, Manipur and Tripura to Maoist concentrated areas,’ Tripura Director General of Police Pranay Sahaya told IANS. Among the central paramilitary forces, many battalions of Assam Rifles, Border Security Forces (BSF) and the CRPF have been deployed in the insurgency-hit northeastern states.
