Malaysian syndicate ‘delivers’ prostitutes to customers

Kuala Lumpur, April 30 : It has emerged that a syndicate in Malaysia has been delivering prostitutes to its customers the way fast-food outlets delivered food. According to Kosmo!, the service came to light after police nabbed 12 women, who were moonlighting as masseuses at a spa in Kuala Lumpur, in a raid on April 28. It is understood that the women did not conduct any sexual activity at the spa although the syndicate would ask customers to make bookings via telephone, and it would then send the women to various locations.

Half of Brit kids ‘have never been read a bedtime story’: Survey

London, April 30 : A new British survey conducted on teachers has revealed that more than half of the students of their class have never been read a bedtime story. Researchers believe that not telling stories to children at home hampers their writing abilities, reports The Scotsman. Poll statistics revealed that 55.7 per cent of primary school teachers have taught children who have never been read a bedtime story in their homes.

EU court tells UK it cannot restrict ‘terror’ families’ benefits

London, Apr.30 : Britain has been told that it is illegal for it to slap restrictions on benefits for families of terror suspects. The controversial decision given by the European Court of Justice now allows families full access to state handouts worth tens of thousands of pounds a year, and is being seen as huge blow to Britain’s war on terrorism and violent extremists. “The regulation ordering funds to be frozen applies only to assets that can be used to support terrorist activities,” the judges said.

Belgian parliament moves against burqa

Brussels, April 30 – The lower house of the Belgian parliament approved a draft law Thursday banning the wearing of burqa in public and other types of Islamic veils, the Belga news agency reported. However, the law criminalising Muslim women who hide their faces in public is unlikely to enter into force soon, as it still has to be approved by the upper house of parliament, the Senate. Progress of the bill would also be wiped out if the political crisis gripping the country would lead to parliament being dissolved – an inevitable option, according to all political commentators.

Nepal PM refuses to quit, stage set for collision

Kathmandu, April 30 – Though caught in a deepening crisis, Nepal’s embattled Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, however, refused to step down Friday as he returned from the SAARC Summit in Bhutan, heightening fears of imminent clashes between security forces and the former Maoist guerrillas. Even as the prime minister’s office issued a statement saying Indian premier Manmohan Singh would continue to support the Nepal-led coalition government, the Nepali prime minister’s morale was further boosted by an emergency cabinet meeting called soon after his arrival in Kathmandu, during which his ministers pledged their support. The cabinet reportedly said it would create a bad precedent if a party could topple a government through street protests and asked Nepal not to resign.

Two CRPF troopers held for smuggling explosives

Lucknow, April 30 – The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police Friday claimed to have busted a gang, including Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men, involved in smuggling of arms and explosives with the arrest of four people, including two troopers. ‘Those arrested are a retired sub-inspector (armourer) of the state police, two CRPF men and a constable (armourer) in the police academy,’ Additional Director General (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters here. ‘We are yet to ascertain to whom they used to supply the explosives,’ he added.
