More rain expected in Delhi Saturday

New Delhi, April 30 – Light showers Friday evening brought respite to Delhiites from intense heat and the weatherman forecast cloudy sky and a possibility of rain in some areas of the national capital Saturday. ‘The national capital can expect a partly cloudy sky with possibility of thunderstorm in some areas on Saturday,’ said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 41 degrees Celsius Saturday while the minimum will be around 27 degrees.

Nityananda sent to jail till May 12

Bangalore, April 30 – Tainted Swami Nityananda was Friday sent to jail till May 12, after being in police custody for eight days answering questions on his alleged sex-romp and other activities. A court in Ramanagara, about 40 km from here, remanded the 32-year-old Nityananda in judicial custody when he was presented before it Friday on the expiry of his police custody. The Karnataka Crime Investigation Department interrogated Nityananda on video tapes showing him in bed with two women, his bank accounts and on reports that he bound several of his followers to non-disclosure agreement about his sexual acts with them.

Three get drunk, consume poison, die

Rohtak, April 30 – Three young friends died in Haryana’s Rohtak district after getting drunk and daring one another to consume a lethal insecticide used by farmers to protect their stored foodgrains. Two CRPF troopers, three cops held for selling arms (Third Lead)

Lucknow, April 30 – Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers and three Uttar Pradesh police personnel were among six people arrested in the state on suspicion of selling arms and ammunition to Maoists, officials said Friday. The sixth is a retired sub-inspector of the state police. Besides the two CRPF personnel, a retired sub-inspector of the state police and a constable armourer of the police academy in Moradabad were held by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force, Additional Director General (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters here.

Census to begin in Maoist-hit Chhattisgarh Saturday

New Delhi, April 30 – The first phase of the Census 2011 will begin in Maoist-hit Chhattisgarh Saturday along with five other states of Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Maharashtra, a home ministry statement said. Census takers will have a tough task to go house to house for the once-in-a-decade exercise in the Left-wing violence-hit districts of Chhattisgarh. New Delhi, Apr 30 : Union Home Secretary G K Pillai on Friday said that US has assured that Indian investigators would get direct access to Lashkar operative David Headley very soon. Presenting the April month report card of the Union Home Ministry, Pillai said: “We have been assured that Indian investigators would be given direct access to David Headley.” “This is a signal achievement and should put an end to the doubts expressed in certain quarters,” he added.
