Pakistan economy collapsing

Islamabad, Jan.31 : Pakistan is not only wrestling with a problem of law and order, but struggling to get its collapsing economy back on rails. The country’s commercial capital, Karachi, which accounts for nearly 45 percent of Pakistan’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) (180 million dollars per day) and tax related revenue of a billion rupees per day, is facing a host of systemic problems. Poor financial and economic management has been compounded by flood-related devastation.

Chris Brown’s absence from Grammys not related to Rihanna trial, says rep

New York, Jan 31 : R ‘n’ B singer Chris Brown will not be attending the Grammys and a representative of his has clarified that it is not related to the restraining order he has been given against Rihanna. According to TMZ.com, Brown, 21, had through his attorney appealed for a reduced restraining order, that is, from a “stay away” order to a “do not annoy” order. Speculation started that the move was a way for Brown to attend the Grammys without worrying about violating his probation.

Nazi prisoner Hermann Goering was ‘too heavy’ for US plane transport

London, Jan 31 : A Second World War US pilot has revealed that he asked for a bigger plane to transport his 21st Nazi prisoner, Hermann Goering, to army headquarters for interrogation. Capt Mayhew “Bo” Foster said that he had wanted a bigger aircraft than the lightweight Piper L4 to carry his hefty cargo but it was decided that a larger plane would not fit on the runway. It was May 9, 1945, Goering, Foster and a group of officers from the Army’s 36th Infantry Division gathered on a tiny airstrip outside Kitzbühel, Austria, to transport the highly prized war prisoner back to Germany in an unarmed, two-man reconnaissance plane.

13-yr-old Indian girl falls to death from 11th floor apartment in Abu Dhabi

Dubai, Jan 31 : A 13-year-old Indian girl fell to death from her 11th floor apartment on Al Falah Street, Abu Dhabi on Saturday afternoon. Asma, an 8th grade pupil, fell down through the window of the apartment while she was trying to fit a curtain on the window, according to Zakaria Ahmad, her paternal uncle. “She had climbed over a stool to reach the curtain rail but slipped from the stool and fell down through the window which was kept opened,” the Gulf News quoted Ahmad as saying.

US inmates forced to rub anti-lice cream on bodies, stand naked for 12hrs

Washington, Jan 31 : A federal lawsuit filed by two prisoners has claimed that 29 northwest Georgia inmates were forced to rub cream on their bodies and stand in their cells naked for 12 hours. New York, Jan 31 : Charlie Sheen’s manager has insisted that the TV star is eager to regain his ‘sobriety’. Sheen’s TV show, ‘Two and a Half Men,’ is on a hiatus while he is in a treatment center. Kindle ebooks outsell paperbacks

London, Jan 31 – Amazon has revealed that it has sold more Kindle ebooks than paperbacks in the US during the final three months of 2010. A similar pattern has continued during January 2011 with 115 ebooks being sold for every 100 paperbacks. The figure only relates to the US market and the number of ebooks sold on Amazon’s e-reader device, the Kindle, which now accounts for 41.5 percent of the e-reader market, the Telegraph reports.
