Pakistan has 100 nuclear weapons, doubled its arsenal: Post

Washington, Jan 31 – Pakistan has doubled its nuclear arsenal in the last several years and now has more than 100 deployed weapons, more than that of India, the Washington Post reported Monday. The Pakistanis have significantly accelerated production of uranium and plutonium for bombs and developed new weapons to deliver them, the influential US daily reported citing estimates by non-government analysts. After years of approximate weapons parity, Pakistan has now edged ahead of India, its nuclear-armed rival, experts cited by the Post said.

NTPC’s third quarter net profit at Rs.2,371.48 crore

New Delhi, Jan 31 – India’s largest power generating company NTPC Limited Monday reported a marginal increase in its net profit for the third quarter of the current fiscal year, which stood at Rs.2,371.48 crore. ‘The unaudited Q3 PAT (profit after tax) of Rs.2,371.48 crore is also an improvement over unaudited PAT of Rs.2,364.98 crore declared over the corresponding quarter in the previous year,’ the company said in a statement. Bihar doctors go on strike in protest against firing by MLA’s bodyguards

Gaya (Bihar), Jan 31 : Doctors and interns of Bihar went on an indefinite strike on Monday in protest against firing on medicos by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Surender Yadav’s bodyguards at Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College Hospital in Gaya on Sunday evening. The security guards of Surender Yadav fired at two doctors of the Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College Hospital, after a heated argument over the treatment of a patient belonging to Yadav’s family. Shubh Prakash Das, an injured doctor, told reporters on Sunday that the arguments between the junior doctors and Yadav’s supporters had heated up, and resulted in an altercation.

25 Chhattisgarh child labourers rescued from brick kiln

Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 31 – Twentyfive child labourers from Chhattisgarh were rescued here Monday and a man was arrested for forcing them to work at a brick kiln, police said. The child labourers – aged between 10-13 years – were rescued from the brick kiln in Adilpur village in a joint operation of the police and district officials. ‘Acting on information of an NGO, we raided the brick kiln and freed the children.

‘Right to education based on Gandhian philosophy’

New Delhi, Jan 31 – The Right to Education Act which promises free and compulsory education to children between the age of six and 14, is in tune with the Gandhian philosophy, speakers at a conference on Child Rights from the Gandhian Perspective said Monday. Organised by the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) in association with the NGO Aashiana, the conference was held to mark the martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi which was on Jan 30.
