Bangalore, Feb 28 – The resilient IT industry Monday slammed the budget for 2011-12 for imposing minimum alternate tax (MAT) on Special Economic Zone (SEZ) units and withdrawing the tax holiday on export units, terming them retrograde measures. ‘Though the services sector has been lauded for its double digit growth, the imposition of 18.5 percent MAT on SEZs and withdrawal of tax holiday under section 10A/10B of the Income Tax Act will impact the industry growth,’ Nasscom (National Association of Software and Services Companies) said in a statement.

New Delhi, Feb 28 – Individual and sole proprietor service tax payers with an annual turnover of up to Rs.60 lakh will not be required to go through audit formalities, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Monday. ‘I propose to free all individual and sole proprietor taxpayers with a turnover up to Rs.60 lakh from the formalities of audit,’ Mukherjee said while presenting the 2011-12 general budget in the Lok Sabha.
