EU imposes sanctions on Libya

Brussels/Geneva, Feb 28 – European Union member states Monday imposed sanctions on Libya, following the UN Security Council’s call this weekend for punitive measures, the bloc’s presidency said. CPCB told to file report on level of pollution in river Yamuna

New Delhi, Feb 28 : The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to file a report on the level of pollution in the river Yamuna within two weeks after examining the sample of its water. An apex court bench headed by Chief Justice S H Kapadia asked the Central Pollution Control Board to take three water samples near sewerage plant and file the report on pollution level.

India seeks evacuation permission from interior Libya

New Delhi, Feb 28 – India Monday said it has sought permission from the Libyan authorities to fly its aircraft to the southwestern city of Sabha to evacuate its nationals stranded there. ‘India’s ambassador to Libya (Mani Mecklai) has sought permission to land aircraft in southwestern city of Sabha,’ Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

Delhi Police gets over Rs.3,000 crore in budget

New Delhi, Feb 28 – Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Monday gave Delhi Police Rs.3,309.75 for the fiscal 2011-12 in the union budget, including funds to build offices and residential complexes across the city. In the budget presented in the Lok Sabha, Mukherjee has allocated Rs.99 crore in plan expenditure and Rs.3,210.75 crore in non-plan expenditure for Delhi Police.
