N D Tiwari moves SC against paternity suit

New Delhi, Feb 28 : Former Andhra Pradesh Governor and veteran Congress leader N D Tiwari has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court’s order to undergo a DNA test on a paternity suit filed by lawyer Rohit Shekhar, who is claiming to be his biological son. 85-year-old Tiwari pleaded before the apex court that there was an error of law committed by the High Court in directing him to undergo the test.

Malkangiri court rejects bail application of Maoist Srinivasalu

Malkangiri (Orissa), Feb 28 : A local court here on Monday rejected the bail application of Maoist Sriramulu Srinivasalu, one of the ultras whose release had been demanded by the abductors of Malkangiri District Collector R Vineel Krishna. Additional District Judge M S Dhal rejected his bail plea.

Libyan crisis: India seeks aircraft landing rights in Sehba

New Delhi, Feb 28 : Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao on Monday said that India had sought aircraft landing rights in Sehba in interior Libya, where over 1000 Indians have been stranded. Talking to reporters here, Rao said the authorities have to rely only on evacuation by aircraft in Libya as the country does not have a rail network and travel by road is not considered to be safe.

Indian economy grows 8.2 percent in third quarter

New Delhi, Feb 28 – The day Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee projected an 8.6 percent growth for the current fiscal, official figures Monday showed the economy grew 8.2 percent in the third quarter of current fiscal, slower than an average of 8.9 percent in the first two quarters. Quarterly gross domestic product (GDP) at factor cost at constant prices (2004-05) for third quarter of 2010-11 is estimated at Rs.12,61,664 crore, as against Rs.11,66,145 crore during the same period last year, registering a growth of 8.2 percent, according to data released by the Central Statistical Organisation.

Budget timid, heartless, lacks big ideas: BJP

New Delhi, Feb 28 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday described as ‘timid,’ ‘unimaginative’ and ‘heartless’ the budget for 2011-12 presented by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, saying there was no ‘big idea’ which had guided the exercise. In a statement, the party said the budget was without a vision, gave no impetus to job creation and failed to tackle the issue of black money.
