Woman, paramour held for sister-in law’s murder

New Delhi, Feb 28 – Two people, including the sister-in-law of the victim, have been arrested for killing a 30-year-old woman who had come to know about their illicit relationship, police said Monday. ‘Jasbeer Singh Chauhan, 32, and Bhawna Gupta, 32, killed Parul Gupta at her home at Palam village area after she came know about their illicit relationship,’ said Deputy Commissioner of Police Sharad Agarwal.

West Bengal calls for centre-state cooperation on black money

Kolkata, Feb 28 – West Bengal’s Left Front government Monday proposed closer cooperation and sharing of information between the central government and the state for unearthing black money. Speaking to mediapersons here, state Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta said: ‘If data at the state level and the information with the income tax department at the central level can be brought together and there is complete cooperation between the two, then definitely recovery of black money will be more easy.’ He added that this will be helpful for both state and central government.

23 trains cancelled ahead of Telangana rail blockade

Hyderabad, Feb 28 – The South Central Railway (SCR) Monday night cancelled 23 trains between Hyderabad and other destinations in view of Tuesday’s rail blockade in Telangana called by groups demanding separate statehood for the region. 3 killed in protests against power plant in Andhra

Hyderabad, Feb 28 – Three people were killed, scores were injured and several houses were destroyed Monday when police opened fire against villagers protesting an under construction thermal power plant in Andhra Pradesh. Delhi’s pocket swells 16 percent in budget

New Delhi, Feb 28 – Delhi will get higher central funds in 2011-12 as Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Monday hiked the capital’s budgetary allocation to Rs.1,257.86 crore — up 16.41 percent from last fiscal. The central plan assistance for the fiscal 2010-11 was Rs.1080.51 crore and for this year it has been hiked to Rs.1,257.86 crore, said a Delhi government statement.

Use incentives to build affordable housing: Minister

New Delhi, Feb 28 – Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister Kumari Selja Monday said the budget has created a fiscal policy environment for growth of housing and hoped that builders would use the incentives to construct affordable dwellings. She said investment-linked tax deductions to businesses that construct affordable housing should go a long way to motivate private developers to invest in small housing.
