New Delhi, Mar 31 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a mass demonstration here on Thursday demanding the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit over her indictment by the Shunglu Committee for irregularities while organising the Commonwealth Games. Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta slammed Sheila Dikshit for her deeds and sought her resignation for indulging in corrupt practices.
United Nations, March 31 – India Thursday supported the United Nation Security Council’s (UNSC) resolution imposing targeted sanctions on Cote d’Ivoire President Laurent Gbagbo and his close aides for refusing to give up power, but warned that peacekeepers should not be used as ‘instruments of regime change’. On Wednesday, the UNSC adopted a resolution at 15-0 in favour of sanctions against Gbagbo, his wife and and aides for refusing to quit despite losing the November 2010 presidential elections to Alassane Ouattara.
New Delhi, March 31 – Japanese telecom giant NTT DOCOMO Thursday said that it will invest Rs.8 billion ($179 million) in Tata Teleservices (TTSL), in which the company holds a 26 percent stake, as part of its strategy to expand in India’s rapidly growing mobile market. ‘Payment of one portion of the funds has been made so far, and the rest of the investment is scheduled to be completed in May,’ a statement by the company said.

New Delhi, Mar 31 : The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved a proposal to set up a ‘National Mission for Electric Mobility’ (NCEM) to promote electric mobility and manufacturing of electric vehicles in India. The cabinet also approved the setting up of a National Board for Electric Mobility (NBEM) by the Department of Heavy Industry.

New Delhi, March 31 – It’s been a year since the right of children to free and compulsory education (RTE) was enacted April 1, 2010, but since then the organisation tasked with monitoring compliance has registered just 230 complaints from all over the country – reflecting lack of awareness about the act. According to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) – whose role has been defined in the act as the chief monitoring agency – of the 230 complaints received, a large number are from the national capital, Delhi.
