88 Rajasthan panchayats vow to end child labour

Dungarpur (Rajasthan), April 30: A total of 88 gram panchayat in the tribal belt of Dungarpur in Rajasthan have chalked out plans to make their areas free of child labour by November this year, an official said. The panchayats in Dungarpur district, over 500 km from the state capital Jaipur, have resolved to attain ‘zero tolerance’ to child labour by Nov 30, said an official at a function held here to observe April 30 as the National Anti-Child Labour Day.

Rs.2 lakh each for kin of factory fire victims

New Delhi, April 30: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Saturday said the government will provide Rs.2 lakh each to the families of the 10 shoe factory workers killed in a blaze in west Delhi earlier this week. While expressing grief over the loss of lives in the shoe factory fire in Peeragarhi, Dikshit said: ‘The government will release an amount of Rs.2 lakh as ex-gratia to the family members of the victims.’ Dikshit was speaking at a function organised here on the eve of International Labour Day Sunday.
