Cameron’s wife went missing in New York during 9/11 attacks

London, May 26: British Prime Minister David Cameron has revealed for the first time that his wife, Samantha, was in New York when the World Trade Center was attacked on September 11, 2001, and had gone missing for hours.

“I’ll never forget the five hours of trying to get hold of her,” The New York Daily News quoted Cameron, as saying at a joint press conference with US President Barack Obama in London.

“And she’ll never forget the New Yorkers that she met that day or the sense of solidarity that she felt that day and that we have felt ever since that day,” he added.

Samantha was in the first months of pregnancy with their first child, Ivan, when she flew into New York on September 10, 2001.

The creative director of Smythson, a luxury stationary firm, was in town to open the company’s first American store.

Samantha was in the store when the planes flew into the Towers.

Back in England, Cameron could not reach his wife as phone service collapsed.

Cameron further said that he feels a special bond with what New Yorkers went through that day.

“Today, as we come up to its tenth anniversary, we should remember the spirit of that city and the sympathy we feel with those who lost their loved ones,” Cameron said. (ANI)
