New Delhi, May 9: Nithari killing convict Surender Koli has filed a mercy petition before President Pratibha Devisingh Patil.
Koli filed the petition after a special court ordered his execution between May 24 and May 31.
CBI Judge Shyam Lal issued the death warrant for execution of Koli, 39, after the Supreme Court in February confirmed the death penalty awarded to him in the case related to rape and murder of 14-year-old Rimpa Haldar , CBI advocate Jai Prakash Sharma said today.
In the May 3 order, the judge said that Koli should be hanged between May 24 and May 31 at 4 a.m.
Koli was awarded the fourth death sentence in the Nithari killings on December 22 last year.
Earlier on September 28 last year, Koli was awarded death sentence by a Special CBI court in Ghaziabad on charges of rape and murder of a nine-year -old girl in the Nithari killings.
The CBI court also awarded death sentence to Koli on May 12 last year for murdering seven-year-old Aarti in Noida”s Nithari village.
In a previous order on the Nithari killings, the special CBI court had on February 12, 2010, awarded the death sentence to Moninder Singh Pandher and Koli for their roles in the Rampa Haldar murder case.
Both Pandher and Koli are accused of killing and disposing off the bodies of 19 children and a young woman between 2005 and 2006. (ANI)
