London, May 9: Healthy pregnant women can have an occasional glass of wine without feeling guilty or posing any major threat to the unborn baby, according to Britain’s top midwife.
The risk an odd glass of wine poses to healthy women and their unborn child is “infinitesimally small”. However, official advice warns mothers-to-be to avoid drinking altogether.
“If I were a normal woman, I exercised and had a normal diet, if I were to have a glass of wine on a Friday, the risk is infinitesimally small,” the Daily Express quoted Cathy Warwick, general secretary of the Royal College of Midwives as saying.
“If I were a teenager with lots of other risks, going out every night boozing and was having a small baby, then it will compound the risks,” she added. (ANI)
