Surat (Gujarat), May 15: In a bid to reel in more workers into the textile industry, weaving unit owners are planning to introduce various provisions for the benefit of workers in Surat, Gujarat.
On this regard, the authorities are planning to give housing allowance and many other provisions for the workers.
Federation of Textile Weavers Association president Ashok Jirawala said that the shortage of workers exists for the past several months in the region.
“We have been witnessing this issue of workers for the past six months. We have been doing many things to stop the emigration of workers from here to other states. We have recommended for giving some provisions for them,” Jirawala said.
He said it is very essential to stop the migration of workers for the smooth functioning of the textile industry in the region.
“We have to stop the migration of workers for the textile industry to thrive. Above that, we are facing many problems due to this shortage of workers,” Jirawala said.
Surat, well known for its flourishing textile industry, is currently witnessing a shortage of over 200,000-300,000 workers as more and more of them migrate to other states or to other jobs in search of better income. (ANI)
