Himachal seeks grant for sick industrial units

Shimla, June 18: The Himachal Pradesh government Saturday asked the central government to provide a special financial package to bail out sick industrial units in the state, a minister said here.

Industries Minister Kishan Kapoor said there are 140 sick units that require financial assistance to make them viable. For this, the central government should create a special fund, Kapoor told a meeting here.

He appealed to the central government to extend the special industrial package to the state on the pattern of Jammu and Kashmir and the northeast up to 2020.

The state’s industrial sector received a major boost in 2003 following the special industrial package announced by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led National Democratic Alliance government.
