Vienna, June 20: Member countries of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will meet on Monday to agree on the need for periodic safety assessments of nuclear power plants and recognize the importance of an international compensation framework for nuclear accidents.
Member countries are also expected agree to strengthen national nuclear regulator authorities and ensure their independence, The Kyodo news agency reports.
Japan Industrial Minister Banri Kaieda is expected to speak about the nuclear crisis in the country and will admit that Japan was ill prepared to cope with it. (ANI)
