Agartala, June 10: The southwest monsoon has reached most parts of the northeastern states of India and is expected to cover the entire region in the next few days, a meteorological department official said here Friday.
‘The monsoon reached Mizoram Tuesday and has so far covered Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland and partially Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh,’ meteorological department official Dilip Saha told IANS.
He added: ‘By Sunday or Monday, monsoon would cover the entire mountainous region.’
‘The monsoon this year in the northeastern region would be normal,’ Saha added.
In the northeastern region, monsoon lasts from June to September.
According to an official report, the rainfall in the region was short by 25 percent last year compared to normal monsoon.
