Chicago, June 10: A US Federal jury has cleared Pakistan-born Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, but found him guilty on charges of supporting terrorist organizations and plotting an attack on a Danish newspaper.
Deliberating on Rana’s fate for two days after more than two weeks of trial in a Chicago court, the jury Thursday found him guilty of providing material support to Pakistan based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), held responsible for the Mumbai attack.
Rana, 50, who was on trial for his behind-the-scenes role in helping terrorists, was accused of letting using his immigration business, First World Immigration Services, as a cover to make travel arrangements for his friend, confessed Pakistani American terrorist David Coleman Headley.
Jurors also found Rana guilty of plotting an attack on a Danish newspaper that printed cartoons of the Muslim prophet Mohammad many Muslims found offensive, local WBEZ Radio reported.
