Royal wedding security cost 7.2 mn pounds

London, June 10: Security for the British royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine cost the economy 7.2 million pounds (over $11 million), Scotland Yard has said.

The police department used 6,388 officers in the security operation in and around London April 29, the Daily Express reported.

Officials, however, said the figure was less than the original estimate of around 10 million pounds. The figures were obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Around one million people were in central London for the event. Police made 55 arrests.
