Washington, June 19: US President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner were the winning team on the golf course at a military base outside Washington DC, after defeating Vice President Joe Biden and Ohio Governor John Kasich on the 18th hole.
Obama and Boehner won two-dollar prizes each for their victory, the BBC reports.
Biden sank a 15 feet putt at the first, prompting Obama to call to reporters, “Did you all catch that?”
Biden is ranked 29th in the Golf Digest list of Washington’s top 150 golfers, Boehner 43rd, while the president – better known for his love of basketball than golf – is ranked 108th.
The magazine also estimates Obama’s handicap at 17, Biden’s at 6.3 and Boehner’s at 7.9.
The game was not only an opportunity to socialize, but also to discuss the budget, as the Democratic president and Boehner, an Ohio Republican, are at odds over plans to raise the nation’s 14.3 trillion dollar debt ceiling.
The game took place amid a dispute between the White House and Congress over the legality of the US role in the NATO-led mission in Libya. (ANI)
