Yeoh ‘shocked’ at deportation by ‘unhappy’ Myanmar over her film ‘The Lady’

Petaling Jaya (Malaysia), July 1(ANI): Hong Kong- based Malaysian actress Datuk Michelle Yeoh has described her deportation from Myanmar as sad and shocking.

Yeoh was deported from Myanmar on June 22 as the military-backed Myanmar government was reportedly unhappy with her pro-democracy film ‘The Lady’.

Yeoh plays the role of Myanmar freedom fighter Aung San Suu Kyi in the movie.

The biopic, which has been shot in Thailand, Myanmar, the United Kingdom and France, is scheduled for release in October.

“The immigration authorities treated me cordially, but deported me upon arrival for no reason and without providing any justification. I was shocked and terribly saddened by this action,” The Star quoted Yeoh, as telling The Daily Chilli.

“I harbour no ill will. I’m always fond of Myanmar and its people. I will continue to cherish hopes that this country will continue its progress towards peace and democracy, and that I will be able to return (to Myanmar) soon,” she added. (ANI)
