London, August 28: Food enthusiasts in Britain spend a staggering 720 pounds each year on barbecues, which is way more than what a week-long summer holiday abroad would cost, according to new research.
The survey found that the cost of each summer get-together is 141.67 pounds.
Research by Pimm’s revealed a week’s holiday abroad costs 543.50 pounds, considerably less than the 724.02 pounds that they spend each year on outdoor grilling.
But despite spending so much money, more than half of Brits admit that the cost is not worth it.
Incredibly, a third of hosts ask guests to bring along their own tableware, doilies and crockery and one in ten admit to asking guests to bring their own coals and even firelighters.
“The fact we spend more on summer barbecues than going on holiday is further proof summer socialising is a top priority,” the Daily Mail quoted Pimm’s spokesperson Emma Sherwood-Smith, as saying.
“We are already well-versed at huddling around rain-drenched barbecues so the thought of spending a little extra is a cost we’re willing to pay,” she added. (ANI)
