Aurangabad, Aug 7(ANI): Veteran social activist Anna Hazare on Sunday reiterated that the Central government was ‘misleading the masses’ on Lokpal Bill.
Hazare is set to observe a fast-unto-death in New Delhi from August 16 to oppose the Bill drafted by the government, which has kept the Prime Minister, judiciary and lawmakers out of its ambit.
Speaking to mediapersons in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Hazare vehemently urged cabinet ministers to incorporate the views of the masses while drafting key legislations.
“The government is misleading the masses to ensure that they do not join the movement against corruption. Did you read what Kapil Sibal has said? He has said that by constituting a joint draft committee (for the Bill), we have committed a blunder,” Hazare said.
“Well, you know, you (Sibal) are the servant, and the masses are the masters. Before formulating any legislation, you will have to take the advice and views of the people. This is true democracy, this is a true republic,” he added.
Hazare further said that the cause of the protest is more important than the venue.
“I am going to sit for the indefinite hunger strike from August 16 in New Delhi. The venue for the fast is Jantar Mantar (New Delhi). Though we have not been informed, the possibility of the government cheating us again cannot be denied. Since the date (of the fast) is close, there are chances that the authorities could try to stop our efforts,” Hazare said
“However, we believe that if we do not get permission to sit at Jantar Mantar, we will sit anywhere. Our sole aim is to stop the corruption,” he added. (ANI)
