Edgbaston Test: England consolidate position against India

Birmingham (UK), Aug.11: England opners Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook have consolidated their team’s response to India’s first innings total of 234 all out by taking their partnership to 157 on the second day of the third cricket Test being played at the Edgbaston cricket ground.

Strauss and Cook were unbeaten on 84 and 50 respectively at lunch on the second day of the match and got the home side to within 67 of India’s under-par first-innings total of 224.

Play was delayed by 30 minutes following morning rain and India again failed to pose much of a threat despite the pitch still offering some assistance even though the bowling was certainly better than the previous evening. They didn’t make the batsmen play often enough and there was a general lethargy about India.

Praveen Kumar was the pick of the attack, probing away as he has throughout the series and finding movement, but the slow surface allowed Strauss and Cook plenty of time to adjust. (ANI)
