London, August 29: A UK school run according to the teachings of Indian-born guru Maharishi Yogi is set to be funded by the taxpayers.
The Maharishi School, in Ormskirk, Lancashire, which teaches meditation to kids as young as four, is one of 24 new privately-run “free schools” getting Government backing.
Although they are state-funded the school does not have to follow the national curriculum when they open next month.
Pupils have transcendental meditation sessions at the start and end of each day. The school, which is rated by education watchdogs as “outstanding”, said the sessions help relax pupils and improve their ability to learn.
Education Secretary Michael Gove said the new independent schools would help to drive up standards around the country. (ANI)
