Malik, Kaneria fail to get PCB clearance for selection

Lahore, August 16(ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board’s Integrity Committee has not given clearance to former captain Shoaib Malik and leg-spinner Danish Kaneria for selection in the national team.

Both Malik and Kaneria appeared before the Integrity Committee, which held its meeting at the PCB headquarters, with two key members of the committee- Sultan Rana and Zakir Khan- conspicuous by their absence.

It has been learnt that while Kaneria failed to submit a clearance certificate from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to the PCB, which is necessary to receive the Integrity Committee’s clearance, Malik has been put up with some more questions regarding his activities and assets, the Dawn reports.

PCB officials remained tight-lipped about the fate of Malik and Kaneria following the lengthy meeting on Monday. “The PCB is not going to announce any decision in this case as these are under consideration,” PCB’s General Manager Media Nadeem Sarwar said.

According to sources, Malik is more likely to get clearance compared to Kaneria, as captain Misbah-ul-Haq has also put his weight behind the all-rounder, particularly for Twenty20 and one-day international (ODI) cricket.

Talking to reporters after the session, Malik said he had submitted all the documents required by the Integrity Committee, and that now it was up to the committee to give its verdict.

Hoping to get a chance to represent the country once again, Malik said the biggest disappointment of his life was to miss the ICC World Cup 2011.

“Despite the fact that I was quite fit and in full form, I was not selected for the last World Cup, staged in Asia, and that will remain as the biggest disappointment of my life,” Malik rued. (ANI)
