US newlyweds steal $1k merchandise for wedding reception

Washington, Aug 26: A newly married couple from the US has been accused of stealing merchandise worth more than 1,000 dollars from Wegmans for their wedding reception.

Arthur Philips III and Brittany M. Lurch from Centre Hall have been accused of stealing merchandise from a supermarket, that police said they intended to use for their wedding reception later that afternoon, the Centre Daily Times reported.

The couple, married on 18th August, had scheduled their wedding reception for 5:30 p.m., with Patton Township police claiming that they were called to Wegmans at 2:30 p.m. for a report of retail theft.

The newlyweds were being watched on surveillance cameras, putting items worth 1,049.26 dollars in their shopping cart and walking out to their car without paying.

Phillips and Lurch told the police the items were for their reception, after they were arrested and didn’t make it to their own reception.

Charged with misdemeanour counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property, the couple remain in Centre County jail in lieu of 2,500 dollars bail.

Police also claim to have found a glass-smoking pipe with marijuana residue while searching the couple’s car due to which Philips was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia as well. (ANI)
