London, Aug 19: An award-winning Hollywood-based News of the World reporter, James Desborough, has been arrested by the officers investigating the phone hacking scandal.
Desborough, the paper’s US editor based in Los Angeles, was arrested as he arrived at a south London police station, the Daily Mail reports.
The FBI are probing claims that 9/11 victims may have had their phone’s hacked by journalists working for News Corp.
The phone hacking is not alleged to have occurred while the reporter was in the US, the paper said.
Desborough has become the 14th person to be arrested by police investigating phone hacking at the now defunct tabloid.
He was being questioned on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications, the paper said.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said the suspect remains in custody over allegations of intercepting voicemails.
The reporter has been based in Los Angeles since April 2009, a month after he was named the showbusiness reporter of the year at the British Press Awards. (ANI)
