Dhaka, Sep.6: Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh arrived at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport shortly after 11 a.m.this morning on a two-day official visit.
Dressed in a blue and white cotton saree, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a loyal and steadfast friend of India, received him along with other senior officials.
Dr. Singh and his entourage, which include his wife Gursharan Kaur, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, Chief Minister of Assam -Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister of Tripura – Manik Sarkar, Chief Minister of Meghalaya – Mukul Sangma and Chief Minister of Mizoram – Lal Thanhawla, were welcomed at the airport by a gun salute and ceremonial guard of honour.
The national anthems of the two countries were also played on the occasion. A banner that said “Welcome to His Excellency, The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh” was also visible at the airport.
At the airport, there was a high level of security. The entire complex, including the terminal building, was teeming with security personnel from bottom to top. An air force helicopter was also seen hovering above the airport.
As soon as the ceremonial function was over, Prime Minister Singh and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina boarded a white BMW and left the airport. The other visiting dignitaries followed in a series of black SUVs. y Smita Prakash (ANI)
