Washington, Oct 21: Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has said President Barack Obama deserves credit for the downfall of the Gaddafi regime in Libya.
On being asked whether Obama should be praised for the latest developments in Libya, presidential hopeful Romney said: “Yes, yes, absolutely.”
Earlier, according to The Politico, Romney’s campaign had said it was the Libyan rebels, more than the Obama administration that deserved praise for ousting the dictator.
Republican Senator John McCain (Arizona) has also termed Gaddafi death as a “victory” for Obama.
“This is a victory for the president, the Obama administration but most importantly” for the Libyan people, he said.
In a statement released earlier in the day, he had said that Gaddafi’s death “marks an end to the first phase of the Libyan revolution”.
Senator Mark Kirk was another Republican senator who said that it is a ‘great win’ for he Obama administration.
“This is a great win for the U.S. military, NATO, the Obama administration, and most importantly, for the people of Libya,” Kirk added. (ANI)
