London, Nov 24: Sheryl Gascoigne, the estranged wife of former England footballer Gazza, has revealed that she literally had to crawl on her ‘hands and knees’ at her home in Gleneagles to avoid being clicked by press photographers.
She told the Leveson inquiry of her years of harassment at the hands of press and said that she was “scared of the repercussions” of giving evidence to the inquiry about her dreadful experience.
Gascoigne asserted that newspapers had portrayed her as ‘money-grabbing’ from the day her relationship kicked off with the former England footballer.
Sheryl also recounted being chased by photographers when she was in the later stage of her pregnancy.
“Perhaps they were waiting for me to give birth on the pavement,” the Guardian quoted her as telling in the court.
Gascoigne also slammed the Press Complaints Commission.
“It’s kind of common knowledge if you’re in the public eye – what are the PCC going to do about it? Absolutely nothing,” she added.
She insisted that the corrections should be given the same prominence in newspapers as the articles in which they were published. (ANI)
