Jammu, Nov 3: Jammu and Kashmir Police Thursday suspended four policemen and ordered a judicial inquiry into the death of a suspected thief under ‘mysterious circumstances’.
Vijay Kumar, a villager of Kanachak area of Jammu, was found dead in the fields Thursday. He was arrested Tuesday on theft charges, police said.
Those suspended included an assistant sub-inspector, two head constables and a constable.
The relatives of the deceased alleged that Vijay died in police custody. They also held protest demonstrations, demanding action against the guilty policemen.
Taking note of the allegations and a preliminary inquiry report, Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Jain suspended the policemen. A magisterial inquiry was also ordered.
