London, Dec 10: A British police officer murdered his wife and six-year-old daughter before committing suicide himself following his sacking from a high-flying job.
Toby Day, 37, suffered a breakdown after being dismissed for using his force’s computer to check whether his wife Samantha was having an affair, the Daily Express reported.
He stabbed daughter Genevieve to death at their home while forcing his wife to watch it all before stabbing her to death too. He also attacked his older daughter Kimberley, 15, and son Adam, 13, in Thursday’s killing spree before turning the knife on himself.
The older children, however, suffered serious injuries but survived.
Day, head of the local policing unit at Beaumont Leys, Leicester, had been suspended for several weeks before his dismissal.
Besides winning bravery awards and praise for helping reduce crime in a troubled area of Leicester, Day was admired for his community spirit.
