Bhubaneswar, Dec 10: Armed Maoist guerrillas, including women, attacked the camp of a construction firm in Odisha’s Bargarh district and torched about six vehicles, police said Saturday.
The incident took place at Saraikela village, about 480 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, Friday night.
According to B.D. Chhatria, incharge of the local police station, about 25 armed rebels, including some women cadres, raided the camp and asked all the 13 construction workers to leave.
‘They then set ablaze six vehicles — four tractors and two multi utility vehicles,’ he told IANS.
The rebels have left a poster at the site which said the vehicles were torched because the contractor had carried out road construction work in the area during a strike called by the Maoists.
Maoists are active in more than half of state’s 30 districts.
