London, Jan 20(ANI): Former Manchester United midfielder David Beckham has revealed his wish to captain Great Britain’s football team at the London Olympics.
“I would love to be captain. I was lucky enough to captain my country and to lead Great Britain into an Olympics would be special for any player,” said Beckham.
He also said that he was thrilled at the prospect of participating in the London Olympics and was in touch with Great Britain manager Stuart Pearce, The Daily Mirror reports.
“It’s an Olympics in the east end of London, where I grew up, and I am excited about, hopefully, being involved. I’ve had conversations with Stuart Pearce and as long as I’m fit, healthy and in form, hopefully I have a chance of making the team,” he added.
Beckham recently signed a new two-year contract with LA Galaxy after confirming that he had turned down one or two offers from the Premier League clubs and is confident that he will be a part of the Great Britain contingent.
“Obviously, it’s great that Galaxy are on board with the fact that I will be gone for that time,” he added. (ANI)
